The Velo House Cafe
Our cafe has been designed to meet the demands of hungry and health conscious cyclists with high quality tasty hot and cold food from first thing in the morning through lunch and beyond. Our chef and his team prepare all the dishes on site using the best produce we can source. Our menu is designed around the trilogy of refuel to help you cycle further or recover faster, reduce, to offer lower calories, salt or sugar and gluten free options and reward because you’ve earned it. We offer a full breakfast and lunch menu alongside lunchtime specials inspired by where the big cycle races are taking part.
Our coffee is by Coffee Officina a small independent roaster who cares passionately about their coffee. We only use their freshest roasts in our beautiful La Marzocca Linea PB and invest hours of training into our baristas to create the finest coffee in the area. Their Espresso blend uses 4 different beans and changes over the year to reflect the seasonal beans at their peek. They also offer a rotating choice of 2 single origin beans we can offer as an alternative to the espresso blend. Finally their swiss water de caf that uses no chemicals to remove the caffeine.
We serve a fine range of Tea Pigs speciality teas including their excellent everyday brew and the fruity Rooibus. We serve these in lovely Falconware mugs or teapots to share.
We are equally as passionate about our beer as our coffee and we promise we do as much “training” of staff on the beer as we do with the coffee. On draft we have Redwell a clean crisp pilsner from Norwich. At the other end of the scale is Bruge Zot a belgian blonde beer with a kick, best sampled by the half pint,( our advice but often ignored). In the middle we have my personal favourite, Blanches de Brusselles a belgian white beer with hints of citrus and coriander to make it a perfect summer beer. We back these draft beers up with a full range of bottled beer from Germany, Belgium, Scotland, France and Hawaii inc Mongozo which is not only Gluten free but also fairtrade and organic as well as being very tasty. Even our low alcohol beer is a Jupiler and make a perfect mid ride recovery drink.
Our wine list changes throughout the season moving with the cycling calender. Selected as good day time drinking wines to be enjoyed by the glass or shared as a carafe or bottle. If it’s too early for a proper drink or you are trying to be good fear not as we offer a great choice of San Pallegrino, Chegworth juices, soft drinks and bottled water.
We have nearly 50 seats inside and 20 more in the sun ( usually) and everyone is welcome. you don’t need to wear lycra, ride a bike or even own a bike to come and enjoy the cafe. Kids are welcome and we offer baby changing facilities with free baby wipes in our disabled toilets. We have high chairs for the little ones along with a toy box and some cycling themed colouring to keep them sitting still just a little bit longer. Any adults found “helping” with the colouring in and then claiming as the work of their 3 year old will be named ad shamed on the cycling art wall of fame.
Well behaved dogs are welcome at tables near the door before 12 and after 3pm if they are kept on a lead We can provide bowls of water for dogs and owners if required.
